Why Nurse Jamie Has Every It Girl In Hollywood Begging (Quite Literally) For More
NURSE JAMIE: CELEBRITY SKINCARE EXPERT
She's like the shaman of celebrity faces. She’s got that inexplicable magic touch. She’s got people asking: “Did she or didn’t she?” (It’s always best when you can’t tell, now isn’t it?) From her Beauty Park office in Santa Monica where she performs her wizardry ways to her booming line of skincare and beauty tools selling on tv and in department stores all over the world, Nurse Jamie is the drug and people are addicted. Me, included.
Catt:
Virtually every hot chick in Hollywood comes to see you. From Em Rata, Olivia Culpo, Jessica Alba, Jenna Dewan, Lea Michelle, January Jones, and many more. AND they don't keep it a secret. So for real, what's your gift?
Jamie:
I take my time - I am conservative - I use a lot of laser and skin care.
I am a bit of a mad skin scientist and an artist, sculptor, and therapist all wrapped up into one. Your skin is an outfit you wear every day, and if you don’t care for it and use it properly, you lose its luster, elasticity, and your natural youthful glow. So I use a combination of the best technology, modalities, machines, and products to help customize programs for patient skincare. First and foremost, I am focused on skin health for clients, ensuring that they have a healthy, glowing complexion.
C:
You've become a household name and your products are now all over the world. Tell me about the beginning. What did you set out to do as "Nurse Jamie"?
J:
You know I have always lived for the makeover - even doing my rotations in school they don't just let you do cosmetic stuff you have to do all types (geriatric/ med surg floor/ etc).
I had a fanny pack (which are back in style now) that had makeup in it and I had a backpack with a hair dryer - when I did my patient care, in addition to giving out meds and taking your BP - I got you out of your hospital gown and put you in your own clothes (if you had them).
I would do your hair and sometimes apply makeup - you felt better and looked better if you were my patient. I think it's all connected: when you look good - you feel good, when you feel good - you work good, when you work good - you do good, when you do good - you live good…
C:
Did you always have success or were there some major obstacles along the way?
J:
I don’t think success is ever a linear path. Certainly not for me. I try to use a “24-hour rule” when things go really wrong. Many things will sort themselves out and it’s so much easier to come up with a cohesive plan of attack after a nights sleep.
C:
What celebrity face feature do most people come in asking for? Kylie's lips? Olivia's cheekbones?
J:
I get a lot of asks for lips like Kylie, but here are some additional celeb features people come in asking for:
Overall look – Jennifer Lopez
Lips – Hailey Baldwin
Skin – Jessica Alba
Butt – Beyonce/ Kim Kardashian
Jawline – Olivia Culpo
Body – Emily Ratajkowski
Eyes – Bella Hadid
C:
People put their most precious asset - their faces - in your hands. There's a trust that's built. What has surprised you most about connecting with your clients? It's a very intimate experience.
J:
I think because I am also a client, it’s easier to relate to me. I can tell you if I think a treatment hurts, or if I think it’s worth it because I’ve done it.
C:
What's the one advancement or treatment that's cutting edge today that you're obsessed with?
J:
At home: I think beauty tools are the feature of beauty. I can’t live without my Uplift Beauty Roller! It does not require batteries or charging and you do not have to follow an acupuncture map to see results. It's super easy to use - and the best beauty tool is one that you will actually use.
In spa: This year body sculpting is big. From banning the bra strap fat to firming the tush. While laser hair removal, Botox, fillers and glowing skin are year-round trends. Those requests never go out of style.
C:
If women can pick one treatment as a splurge to pamper themselves, who might not have a lot of extra income to spend on services, what would you advise them to do?
J:
At home: UpLift Massaging Beauty Roller.
In spa: Pixel Resurfacing Laser is our most popular “house favorite” treatment.
(Editor note aka Catt here: I’ve done the PIXEL and holy hell it was a game changer. Five days later I had people asking me what I had done. Your skin! So radiant, so plump. You’ve never looked better.)
C:
Have you ever refused to do a nip or a tuck for someone if you fundamentally thought it was a mistake?
J:
At least weekly. This is why I have so many celebrity clients. I’m like the big sister you wish you had. I won’t tell on you, but I will say “No" if I think you do not need it.
C:
You're a mom with triplets, you're a wife, and you are an insanely successful entrepreneur. What advice would you give other young women just starting their own journey in business?
J:
I hate the term work-life balance - I think it's about harmony with work and home. Keep moving forward, make the world a more beautiful place, and never lose sight of what is important.
C:
What do you say to people against Botox, fillers and altering your looks externally? Some are highly critical of those who choose to go the unnatural route.
J:
If it bugs you, fix it. Use your therapy session for something else -something more real. If it doesn’t bug you and you are good - that’s all the matters.
C:
Your business operates with a strong team of mostly females! What do you love about the power and sisterhood behind a women-led effort each day?
J:
I’ve dedicated my life to making women better in the way I know how. I thrive being around girl bosses.
